The Peninsula Jewish Community Center is pleased to be hosting our second juried community art show, October 12 – December 18, 2012. We realize that many talented artists reside and create locally in our community. It is with pride and admiration that we open the Center’s gallery to showcase a wide variety of their works. We invite artists of all levels to review the eligibility requirements and application guidelines below.

Cash and prizes will be awarded.

Notification of acceptance or rejection will be mailed on this date. No phone calls please.

Wednesday, October 3 & Thursday, October 4

Accepted art work must be hand-delivered to the Peninsula Jewish Community Center (address on reverse side). Time periods for drop-off will be mailed with acceptance forms.

Sunday, October 21 • 2:00 - 4:00 pm

Art reception and awards presentation.

Wednesday, December 19 & Thursday, December 20*

Pick up art work at the PJCC.

*Art not picked up by Thursday, December 20, 2012 will incur a $5 per day storage fee. Works will only be held until January 18, 2013.

Entries must be original works by the artist, who must be at least 18 years of age and live within 60 miles of the PJCC. The final presenting form of two-dimensional works may not exceed 30” x 40” in either direction. Three-dimensional works will be displayed in curio cabinets and therefore may not exceed the dimensions of 10” h x 10” w x 7” d.
Eligible works include Paintings, Drawings, Photography, Mixed Media, Tapestry/Wall Hangings, Ceramic, Glass, Metal, Wood and Fiber.

Entry Fees

A non-refundable fee of $20 for one, $25 for two and $30 for three submissions must be submitted with application (please make checks payable to the PJCC). There is a maximum number of three submissions per artist. Only one application form allowed per artist.

Submission Guidelines

Images may be submitted on CD or digitally uploaded. Images must be in jpg format and a minimum of 300 dpi. Entrants in the Three-Dimensional category are permitted to include a second image of the work to demonstrate an alternate view of the piece. Each jpg file should consist of the artist’s full name (last name, first) followed by the title of the work, media and entry number, e.g.:

  • Brown, Scott – The Pond, photography, #1. jpg
  • Brown, Scott – Jupiter Sings, Mixed Media, #2. jpg

If mailing a CD, please clearly print the artist’s name on both the CD and sleeve and mail together with completed entry form and fee.

Entry forms and fees must be postmarked no later than August 1, 2012. Digital images should be mailed on CD or uploaded uploaded online no later than August 1, 2012.

Selection and Award Jury Processes

Selection for the show will be at the discretion of the PJCC Community Art Show Selection Committee, who will have complete discretion as to the number of works to be exhibited and may eliminate any entry at any stage in the judging process. The Award Jury will be comprised of members of our local art community. Additionally, there will also be one “Community Choice” award, which will be decided by visitors to the gallery from October 12 – 21, 2012. Any accepted works delivered that differ from submitted images will be disqualified..

Sales and Commissions

All works of art must be available for sale. The PJCC receives a 20% commission on all works sold. Please keep this in mind when pricing your entries. If a work is sold the artist will receive the dollar value listed on the entry form less the PJCC’s commission. The PJCC does not guarantee sales.

Publicity

Submission of art images constitutes an agreement to exhibit any and all selected works. The PJCC will have permission to photograph or reproduce any and all works in the exhibit, together with the artist’s name and picture, for the purpose of publicity and reporting without compensation.

Framing

All two-dimensional works must be delivered to the PJCC framed and ready to hang. Tapestry and wall hangings do not require framing, but must arrive ready to hang.

Liability

It is suggested that artists carry their own insurance. Every reasonable care will be taken in handling work, but no responsibility will be assumed by the PJCC for any loss or damage incurred in transit. Items will be insured for 80% of the dollar value written on entry form by the PJCC under its “all-risk” wall-to-wall policy. Submission of work(s) constitutes agreement to terms and conditions in this application.
