PJCC Preschool

The PJCC Preschool incorporates an exciting values-based curriculum into all programs. An Ethical Start is based on the classic Jewish text of Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Fathers and Mothers). Our specially trained staff creates an environment of hands-on discovery and discussion, encouraging children to make decisions based, not on impulse, but on Jewish ethics and values, such as respect, responsibility, kindness and community.

"When we moved our son to the PJCC preschool we knew it was going to be a terrific environment.  Our expectations were exceeded and we couldn't have asked for a more wonderful preschool experience for him.  Thank you for all your efforts (and everyone on the Preschool team) to provide an exceptional education". -- Preschool Parent

Programs

Tiny Tots: 18-24 months

Our Tiny Tot program is a lively, enriching opportunity for young children to join in activities geared to a toddler’s interests and attention span. During a typical class the children may make caterpillars out of egg cartons, dance the Hokey Pokey, play in the playground and sit in a circle for story time. This class gives children a chance to begin socializing with their peers while offering parents an opportunity to develop friendships with other young families from the community. While parents are required to stay while children are adjusting to the class, they are free to leave when their children become more independent. Music and Physical Education Specialists enrich the program.

Dates:    September 1, 2009 – June 8, 2010
Days:     Tuesday and Thursday
Time:     9:00 – 11:00 am (a small snack will be provided)
11:15 am – 1:15 pm (please bring lunch & beverage for your child)
Fees:     $3,100 for school year; $310 per 10 monthly payments

K’ton ton (Little People): Two-Year-Olds

Children enjoy a secure and caring environment where separation from parents is supported. Each day offers a balance of quiet and active experiences which match and stimulate developmental needs. Time is planned for exploration and experimentation, emphasizing the experience and not the finished product. Toilet teaching is incorporated into the program.

Keshet (Rainbow): Three-Year-Olds

This theme-based curriculum allows children to develop social and language skills through a variety of interactive activities, such as painting, drawing, music and movement. Gross and fine motor development is stimulated with an emphasis on listening and group skills. Children also learn about themselves, the world around them and the richness of Jewish life in an atmosphere of love, joy, respect and security.

Kee Tov (Something Good): Four-Year-Olds

Establishing a strong foundation in the early years is a critical component to becoming a successful student. This program focuses on early literacy development and prepares children for the more structured reading and math they will encounter in kindergarten. Children continue to develop their social, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.

Extended Day Options For Preschoolers

Children in our morning program can Stay & Play two, three or five days per week from noon until 1:00 pm, 3:00 pm or 6:00 pm in contracted or drop-in care. Enrichment Classes enrich the program with specialists in arts and sports. Classes will meet weekly from 1:00 - 2:00 pm in 10-week sessions after lunch. This program offers fun-filled afternoons for children needing extended care. A thoughtfully planned curriculum balances engaging activities with a relaxed, gently paced rhythm. Activities include art, science, cooking and playground time. A two hour nap period is available after lunch.

About The PJCC Preschool Staff

The PJCC Preschool staff is a unique group of dedicated early childhood professionals, who combine strong educational backgrounds with a love and appreciation for young children. Teachers and assistants are selected for the warmth, sensitivity and nurturing qualities they bring to their work. They appreciate each child, supporting their personal growth and development as an individual and as a member of the social group.

Thanks to a generous Emergency Education Grant from the Jim Joseph Foundation, the scholarship award process is being implemented in partnership with the following organizations. The Jim Joseph grant will enable families to keep their children in Jewish preschools, day schools, and Jewish overnight summer camps throughout the Bay Area.
