Get to Know Cynthia
“My reason for becoming a fitness professional is a very personal one: my mother never exercised or took care of her body, which ultimately took its toll on her health. She was obese, had Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and experienced two heart attacks before passing away at 60. My father smoked and never exercised. He passed away at 72 from pancreatic cancer. Both died far too young.
As a result, I knew I wanted to do something to help others live a long and healthy life. It is possible to begin a fitness regime at any age: the first step is simply focusing on your goal.
But sometimes getting started is the hardest part, which is why it’s important to get started in a proper manner. Working with a trainer gets you closer to your goal. We tend to think we can do it on our own but how are you going to know what works for you? My objective is to encourage, educate, mentor and council clients on healthy eating habits, proper form, breathing techniques and safety, all of which form the framework towards reaching your goal.
My style of training stems from my background in dance, which focuses on form and structure. Posture is critical, coupled with proper technique that enhances the workout. It is also important that my clients have fun while exercising. This not only prevents boredom, but keeps them looking forward to new and challenging workouts.
My clients range from the bride who wants to get into shape for her wedding to the post-menopausal woman. Together, we form a plan that will help them reach goals such as lowering their blood pressure and/or cholesterol, managing stress, losing weight, building strength, increasing lean body mass, reducing medications, managing diabetes and lowering body fat. Different people have different needs and not all exercises work for all people. That is why I create a customized plan for each client.
My philosophy is to enlighten clients to the vast possibilities that they can accomplish if they just give themselves a chance. I can say without reservation that I love what I do and wouldn’t want to do anything else. The most rewarding part of being a trainer is when that little light bulb goes off in my client’s head and they turn, smile, and say, “Now I get it!"
