Get Up & Go: Benito Cortez & John Steiner
Pianist John Steiner and violinist Benito Cortez will present a highly unusual program of collaborative improvisations that express a multitude of feelings and moods. You, the audience, will get a chance to decide what you want to hear by suggesting themes for the musicians to play as they sculpt time, sound (and silence). John Steiner is an active performer in and around the Bay Area and is musical director at the San Francisco Center for Spiritual Living and the First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael. Benito Cortez performs with various gypsy jazz bands in the Bay Area and has delighted audiences at the PJCC several times in the past.
Get Up & Go: From Europe to Broadway and Hollywood
Marilyn Cooney, singer/pianist, presents a repertoire of some of Europe's legendary artists, woven together with stories of how their songs gave birth to America's unique music. You'll hear favorites from performers such as Edith Piaf, Marlene Dietrich, Vera Lynn and Charles Trenet. Featured composers include Kurt Weill, Sigmund Romberg and Cole Porter. Listen and sing along, too! Selections include No Regrets, Auf Wiedersehen, La Mer, Mack the Knife and Boys in the Backroom.
Get Up & Go: The Wizard of Words - Yip Harburg's Songs
Steve Gill and his troupe - Karl Franzen and Feeta Bishop, present a tribute to the wit and satirical voice of Yip Harburg, an idealist with a fervent populist faith. Harburg was in some ways the Bruce Springsteen of his era. Songs include 'Over the Rainbow,' 'April in Paris,' Selections from 'Finian's Rainbow' and 'Wizard of Oz,' and the famous song of the Depression 'Brother Can You Spare a Dime.
Get Up & Go: Trio Amore
The Trio Amore, an ensemble of professional artists, features the voices of soprano Maria Fassio Pignati, and tenor Peter Girardot, with accompanist Ron Borelli on accordion and keyboard. They been performing together since 1994, presenting an abundance of traditional Italian music and opera for the public's enjoyment. The ensemble adds a touch of humor and dramatic flair to each performance, eliciting laughter and tears from their listeners.
